Ways of Finding a Dentist during an Emergency should you Require One

According to the American Dental Association, numerous people have been going to emergency centres in hospitals to get dental care.  Most of these emergencies, however, are minor dental issues and can be dealt with easily at Calgary emergency dental services. Here’s a guide on what is an emergency when it comes to dental care and ways of locating a dentist.

Dental Emergency

A dental emergency is defined as an issue regarding teeth that requires quick and efficient help by a dentist.  In accordance with ADA teeth injuries, for instance, cracked teeth are among the common emergencies. Infections that occur as a result of untreated cavities are also in the same group. Most of these emergencies lead to side effects such as:

  • Difficulty In breathing
  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Headaches
  • Swelling of the face

These require fast attention.

Problems that are Considered Non- Emergency.

Most dental issues are considered non-emergency. The most common example is cavities. Despite cavities being common to ensure you get treatment immediately.  Cavities could result in pain whenever you try eating. Should cavities go untreated for so long they could prove to be more problematic? It is vital for clients to seek advice from dentists in such situations.

Always avoid putting off dental problems for later, this is an unhealthy habit and could cost you a lot. Always consult your dentist regardless of whether the issue is an emergency or not.  Treatment may not be a requirement for non-emergency issues but always talk to your dentist. It is better to be safe than sorry!

Locating a Dentist during an Emergency

Always contact your dentist promptly whenever you have a dental problem that requires attention.  In accordance with ADA dentists put time aside for emergency visits. This means you can get help from your dentist. Sometimes the patient lives a distance from their dentist’s office, ADA’s online tool is instrumental in locating a dentist close by.

In some situations, one can experience problems with their teeth during the night.  Try calling your dentist and seek advice on how best to proceed. You could be asked to take painkillers to help ease the pain and seek dental assistance first thing in the morning.

You could also be asked to seek help in a hospital, however, this is least advised. ADA says that the approach of visiting a general hospital is least effective as it does not treat the root of the problem in question.  Visit your dentist immediately.
